Human Vision Model and Wavelets for High Quality Image Compression

We consider a method for image compression based on the coupling of the wavelet transform and a model of the human vision system, which was introduced by the authors in a previous paper. We test such a method on a benchmark of images of different nature, comparing it with a standard JPEG algorithm. The test performed show that the method proposed gives results of better quality, for the same compression ratio.
