research interests

I am interested in all aspects of numerical analysis of partial differential equations. The keywords that characterize most my work are isogeometric analysis, fully compatible discretization of PDEs, linear and non linear elasticity, contact mechanics, integral equations on non-smooth manifolds, functional theory for Maxwell equations in non-smooth domains, finite element techniques for Maxwell equations, non-conforming domain decomposition methods, asymptotic analysis, stabilization techniques for finite element discretizations.

SHOrt bio

I got a degree in computer science in July 1996 and a PhD in mathematics in December 2000. I became researcher at the CNR institute IMATI in 2001, and I am currently director of IMATI. From 2001 to 2006 I did long research visits to Laboratoire JLL (Paris), Ecole Polytechnique (Palaiseau), ETH (Zurich) and ICES (UT Austin).

I was awarded an ERC Starting grant in 2008 for the GeoPDEs project and I delivered several plenary lectures during the last years. Among others, I was invited speaker at ICM (Seoul, section 15) in 2014, at GAMM (2014), at MAFELAP (2013) and at ECCOMAS (2012, semi plenary).

Finally, I delivered a plenary talk at ICIAM (Beijing) in 2015, where I received the Collatz prize.
