PostDoctoral Position on Virtual Element Methods at IMATI Pavia

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position on “Analysis and implementation of efficient virtual element methods ". The position will be located at IMATI-CNR in Pavia (Italy) and the research activity will be carried out within the team working on polytopal methods for the solution of PDEs, under the supervision of Silvia Bertoluzza. Ideal candidates should hold a PhD and have a strong background in numerical methods for solving Partial Differential Equations and know at least one of the following programming languages: C/C++, Python, Matlab. Familiarity with one or more of the following subjects, though not required, will be positively evaluated: Virtual Element methods, image segmentation methods, deep learning.

Information

Duration: 1 year (renewable for a second year, following positive evaluation)

Teaching load: none

Starting salary: 22,000.00 euros per year (gross salary)

Expected starting date: January 2022

How the selection process works: if you are shortlisted, you will have an interview with the hiring committee. The interview can be done by Skype. The interview will most probably take place at the beginning of December and you will receive an email at least 20 days in advance.

About IMATI

IMATI is an institute of the Italian National Research Council (CNR) and has three sections (Pavia, Genova and Milano). Located in the Campus of the Pavia University, the Pavia section has a long standing tradition in the study of PDEs, which are addressed from different points of view: theoretical (existence, uniqueness and regularity of the solutions), numerical (approximation schemes, stability and adaptivity) and computational (algorithms and computing methodologies). In particular, the work on polytopal methods for the numerical solution of PDE's is carried out at IMATI in the framework of the ERC Project CHANGE (Grant agreement No 694515) and of the MIUR-PRIN Project Virtual Element Methods: Analysis and Applications (Grant n. 201744KLJL).
